A guide to Yediburunlar

Where is Yediburunlar?

Yediburunlar is a mountain village in the Seydikemer district of Muğla province. It was formerly called Gey, and Lycian Way walkers still know it by that name. The village sits on a headland of old farming terraces, around 600 metres above the sea.

Its name means “Seven Capes”, after the headlands that reach into the sea along the coast below. On this stretch south of Fethiye, between Ölüdeniz and Patara, pine-covered mountains drop straight into the Mediterranean, and from the village you look out over the capes and the open sea.

Right on the Lycian Way

The Lycian Way, which runs from Fethiye towards Antalya, passes through Yediburunlar. The stage from Alınca in the north is about 7.7 km of rocky path and takes around 3.5–4 hours; the section down to Bel village to the southeast is about 5.8 km.

The village has a small shop, cafés, and water and toilets next to the mosque. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for walking; in summer, set off early in the morning.

Ölüdeniz, Kabak Bay and Butterfly Valley are close as the crow flies, but the mountain road makes them a 70–80 minute drive. Paragliding flights from Babadağ run from April to October.
